What is the benefit of smoke testing over the standard visual only checks?

Well, all our engineers are trained to perform a smoke tightness test on chute hopper and doors as part of our scheduled service and inspection regime.

Local smoke testing allows us to physically see if a hopper door is smoke tight or not. Smoke can penetrate any small hole or gap and leak into the residential parts of the building.

These imperfections can be missed when only a visual check is performed. Additionally, if a door is even slightly bent, often not perceivable at a glance, this can allow smoke.

Someone could visually conclude, well, there is a smoke leak in place, but miss the fact it is no longer compressed against the door when closed and miss the hazard altogether.

It may take longer and it means training our engineers, but this step means we don’t miss any potential smoke leak risks.

This gives us and our clients peace of mind.
