Practical CPD Training in Refuse Chute Safety and Compliance

We recently delivered our CPD Accredited Refuse Chute Technical & Regulatory Training for teams from Morgan Sindall Group plc and Westminster City Council. This session brought together professionals responsible for building safety, housing, and facilities management to explore the technical and regulatory considerations surrounding refuse and linen chute systems.

What the Training Covered

The course focused on the key issues affecting chute systems in residential buildings, including:
  • Fire safety regulations and compartmentation
  • Inspection best practice and common failure points
  • Testing procedures and reporting requirements
  • Contractor competency and compliance responsibilities
  • Replacement strategy and lifecycle planning
  • The role of digital inspection tools
These areas are critical to ensuring chute systems are safe, compliant, and fit for purpose, particularly in high-rise and multi-occupancy buildings.

The Value of Practical Learning

One of the key elements that sets this training apart is its practical, hands-on approach. Using our mobile chute section, including hoppers and a fire closure plate, delegates were able to:
  • See how chute systems operate in real-world conditions
  • Understand how fire safety components function
  • Identify common issues during inspections
  • Recognise where risks and misunderstandings typically arise
This practical experience helps bridge the gap between theory and real-world application, giving attendees greater confidence when assessing systems in their own buildings.

Strong Engagement from Delegates

There was excellent engagement throughout the session, with delegates actively participating in discussions and making the most of the hands-on elements. It was particularly encouraging to see attendees not only gaining technical knowledge but also enjoying the interactive nature of the training.

Supporting Building Safety and Compliance

As regulatory expectations continue to evolve, particularly in the context of building safety, it is increasingly important that those responsible for managing buildings have a clear understanding of refuse and linen chute systems. Training like this supports organisations in:
  • Improving compliance with fire safety regulations
  • Enhancing inspection and maintenance processes
  • Reducing risk across residential buildings
  • Making informed decisions about repair and replacement
